Shrimad Sumateendra Theertha Swamiji
Shrimad Vibhudendra Theertha Swamiji initiated Shrimad Sumateendra as the 15th Swamiji of Kashi Math Samsthan.
The tenure of Shrimad Sumateendra is significant because of the dispute that arose between him and Shrimad Vasudendra Theertha Swamiji.
It was during when a difference of opinion between the two Swamijis took a unfavourable turn. So much so that Shrimad Vasudendra Swamiji wanted division of the properties of Kashi Matha. Accordingly a suit was filed in the Court. The Court gave the decision in favour of Shrimad Vasudendra and issued a decree for the division of Matha.
However the decree was not enforced due to two main factors firstly the initiation of Shrimad Bhuvanendra Swamiji as the Shishya (minor) by Shrimad Sumateendra and then the demise of Shrimad Sumateendra.
Shrimad Sumateendra attained Samadhi in Shri Venkatapati Temple, Alleppy, Kerala on January 31, 1851.
