Shrimad Upendra Theertha Swamiji
Shrimad Upendra Theertha Swamiji was the third head of Matha Samsthan. He succeeded Shrimad Keshavendra Theertha Swamiji.
During his term Shrimad Upendra Theertha has travelled widely from Kashi to Kochi. He also bought land in Kashi with the intention of expanding the temple premises.
He was also instrumental in making changes in the puja methods of Shri Venkatesh Temple in Kochi. The changes were made after the Kochi Gowda Saraswat Brahmins informed about certain difficulties of performing in accordance to the ways prescribed earlier.
Shrimad Upendra Theertha Swamiji attained his Maha Samadhi at Kashi on Octorber 24, 1674. Before that he had initiated his brother’s son Shri Narayan Bhat as the Shishya.
Shri Narayan Bhat was renamed as Shrimad Raghavendra Theertha Swamiji.
